Introduction
One of the things God changed in my life after I developed a relationship with Him was the way I pray. As my relationship with God grew deeper, my prayers also began to change. I realized that many of my prayers in the past were not aligned with His will because I did not yet know His Word.
Over the years, God taught me that prayer is not simply about presenting our requests to Him. Prayer is about humbly coming before Him, surrendering our lives, knowing His Word, and aligning our hearts with His will.
Through different trials, struggles, spiritual battles, and painful experiences, God gradually revealed to me the importance of humility, repentance, spiritual discernment, and praying according to His Word. This testimony is about how God transformed my understanding of prayer and taught me that true victory, freedom, healing, and restoration come when we humble ourselves before Him and seek His will above our own.
Part 1: Learning to Align My Prayers with God’s Will
Since I began my relationship with God, my prayers have changed. The deeper my relationship with Him became, the more my prayers began to align with His will.
Through this journey, I realized that many of my prayers in the past were not according to God’s will. Before I truly knew Him, I often prayed without understanding that some of my prayers were actually contrary to His will because I did not know His Word.
That is why it is so important to know God’s Word through the Bible. It is through His Word that we learn what aligns with His will and what does not.
There was a season when I struggled with a particular sin. At that time, I did not realize that God was allowing it as part of my training before entrusting me with greater responsibilities in sharing His Word.
Through that process, God revealed my weakness and showed me the areas of my life that I needed to surrender to Him.
Because I was trapped in that struggle, my only hope was God. Through that experience, I learned how important prayer truly is. There are many things happening in the spiritual realm that we cannot see with our natural eyes. That is why we must pray so that we will not fall into temptation.
MATTHEW 26:41 (NLT)
Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak!”
Part 2: Humility, Repentance, and God’s Restoration
I am deeply thankful to the Lord because even though I was struggling with sin, He allowed that difficult season for my good.
Through it, God taught me what it means to humble myself before Him. He taught me how to acknowledge my sin, admit my need for Him, and surrender completely to His Lordship.
He taught me how to cry out for mercy and depend on Him to rescue me from the trap of temptation.
The Bible teaches that when we humble ourselves before God, His heart is moved toward us. Through humility, we acknowledge His Lordship and sovereignty over our lives.
2 CHRONICLES 7:14 (NLT)
Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.
This verse became very real in my life.
When I finally surrendered my struggle to God, He stepped into my situation in a powerful way. I will never forget that moment. His presence was overwhelming.
Because of my struggle with sin, I experienced spiritual oppression. I battled depression, anxiety, heartbreak, emotional pain, restlessness, and stress. I had lost my peace and joy.
But when God intervened, He healed me.
The heaviness I had been carrying suddenly disappeared. I experienced freedom unlike anything I had ever known. It felt as though a bird that had been trapped in a cage for many years was suddenly released.
That was exactly how I felt.
God restored what the enemy had stolen and damaged in my life, including my heart, my ministry, and most importantly, my relationship with Him.
2 CORINTHIANS 3:17 (NLT)
For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
JOHN 8:36 (NLT)
So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.
GALATIANS 5:1 (NLT)
So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.
Part 3: Understanding My True Identity in Christ
During that season of struggle, I often felt condemned.
The enemy constantly whispered lies, telling me that I was a bad person and that I was unclean. But those words were not from God. They were lies from Satan.
My true identity is found in Jesus Christ.
Satan attacks the Word of God concerning our lives. He looks for opportunities to distort our identity in Christ and steal the truth that God has planted in our hearts. His goal is to separate people from God and ultimately lead them toward spiritual death.
The Bible clearly reveals the enemy’s purpose:
JOHN 10:10 (NLT)
The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.
Jesus came to give us a rich and satisfying life.
This does not mean a life filled with material wealth, endless money, or a life free from problems and suffering. Rather, it refers to an abundant life that begins within us—a life that is spiritually whole, deeply fulfilling, and unshakable.

Part 4: How God Changed My Heart Through Prayer
I remember receiving a phone call from the Philippines. During that conversation, my niece told me that my cat had been killed, slaughtered, and eaten.
I was heartbroken.
My cat was around eleven or twelve years old, and hearing what had happened broke my heart. I did not know what to do with the pain and anger I felt.
Instead of holding on to those emotions, I ran to God. I poured out my grief before Him and cried in His presence.
As I prayed, God comforted me.
He spoke to my heart and reminded me that the people who did those things were spiritually blind.
God showed me that they did not know Him and were unaware of the spiritual realities behind their actions. He then reminded me of Ephesians 6:10–12 and taught me that my true battle was not against people.
As God ministered to me, my anger and pain began to disappear. In their place came compassion and love for people who do not yet know Him.
I realized that many people are spiritually lost and need prayer, guidance, and salvation.
EPHESIANS 6:10–12 (NLT)
10 A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. 12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.
Part 5: Praying for Churches and Seeing God’s Heart
There was also a time when I witnessed churches being damaged by division, conflict, and dissension.
Seeing this deeply grieved me.
One day, as I prayed in the Spirit for those churches and others facing similar struggles, I suddenly began to weep uncontrollably. Even though I did not understand the words I was speaking, tears continued to flow.
In that moment, I sensed the compassion in God’s heart for His people.
God showed me that Satan seeks to create division and conflict among believers in order to weaken the Church. This is why believers must remain grounded in God’s Word and remember that our battle is not against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces.
Those who have fallen into error do not need hatred; they need prayer.
God impressed upon my heart that churches experiencing division must return to Him through humility and repentance. He reminded me that when His people humble themselves, seek Him, and turn back to Him, He is able to restore what the enemy has destroyed.
Part 6: What God Taught Me Through the Story of Esther
God also reminded me of the story of Esther.
Before Esther could approach the king, there was a process she had to go through. She was prepared, cleansed, and made ready before entering his presence.
Because of this preparation, she found favor with the king.
Later, Esther humbled herself through prayer and fasting as she interceded for her people. Because of her humility and trust in God, her request was heard, and her people were delivered.
Through this story, God taught me an important spiritual principle.
Before we can properly approach God, our hearts must be humble, surrendered, and pure before Him.
Through Jesus Christ, our sins are cleansed and forgiven. Because of His sacrifice, we are made righteous before God.
As we align our prayers with God’s Word and His will, our prayers become effective because they reflect His heart and purposes.
God also reminded me of Abraham, whose prayers were heard because of his relationship with God. Abraham interceded for Lot and his family, and God answered his request.
GENESIS 19:29 (NLT)
But God had listened to Abraham’s request and kept Lot safe, removing him from the disaster that engulfed the cities on the plain.
There is another testimony I wrote related to this topic entitled:
“What Happens in the Spiritual Realm When We Pray: The Power of Prayer.”
JAMES 5:16 (NLT)
Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.
PROVERBS 15:29 (NLT)
The Lord is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayers of the righteous.
1 PETER 3:12 (NLT)
The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right, and his ears are open to their prayers. But the Lord turns his face against those who do evil.”
Final Reflections
Looking back, I now understand why God continually taught me about humility, repentance, prayer, and His Word.
Through personal struggles, spiritual battles, painful experiences, and the brokenness I witnessed in the lives of others, God consistently reminded me that the answer is always to return to Him.
Whether it is an individual trapped in sin, a wounded heart in need of healing, or a church suffering from division and conflict, God’s invitation remains the same:
Humble yourself. Seek Him. Repent. Align your life with His Word.
When we come before God through Jesus Christ with humble and repentant hearts, He cleanses us, restores us, and teaches us how to pray according to His will.
I learned that prayer is not about convincing God to do what we want.
Prayer is about aligning ourselves with what God has already spoken through His Word.
As we grow in our relationship with Him, our prayers begin to reflect His heart, His purposes, and His will. When our prayers align with His Word and His will, we can trust that God hears us and that His promises never fail.
This is why I am grateful for everything God allowed me to go through. Through every season, He taught me to depend on Him, trust His Word, and seek Him above everything else.
I also believe that God did not teach me these lessons for my benefit alone. He allowed me to experience them so that I could encourage others and point them toward Him.
My prayer is that everyone who reads this testimony will come to know God’s goodness, trust His Word, and experience the healing, freedom, restoration, and guidance that can only come from Him.
All glory belongs to God!
